Hope Works: Free Tech Certification Training That Changes Lives. No Cost, No Barriers

If you've been told that good-paying jobs aren't for people like you, we want to challenge that directly.

We run a free tech workforce training program called Hope Works — built specifically for people who've been through hard things. People in recovery. People rebuilding after incarceration. People experiencing homelessness or housing instability. People living with mental health challenges. People who've been written off by systems that were supposed to help them.

We believe you deserve a shot at a real career — and we've built a program to make it happen.

No cost. No degree required. No previous tech experience needed. Just your willingness to show up and try.

What Hope Works Actually Is

Hope Works is our workforce development program that combines free tech certification training with peer support, mental health resources, job placement help, and wraparound services.

It's not a generic job training class. It's not a program where you sit in a room, learn something, and figure the rest out on your own. It's a real support system — built by people who've navigated the same barriers you're facing, specifically for people in the Central Valley who need more than just a certificate.

We help you earn real, industry-recognized certifications from Google, Meta, Microsoft, Adobe, and more. Then we help you get hired — with employers who mean it when they say they give people second chances.

These are jobs paying $40,000 to $100,000+ per year. With no college degree required.

If you're in Modesto, Stockton, Fresno, Merced, or anywhere in the San Joaquin Valley, this program was built with you in mind. We know the Central Valley has some of the highest poverty rates in California. We know transportation is a barrier. We know the heat, the distance, and the lack of services make survival harder here than in most places. That's exactly why we built this program the way we did.

Who This Program Is For

You might be wondering whether this is really for someone like you. It is.

Hope Works is designed for adults 18 to 65 who are facing one or more of these barriers:

  • You've experienced incarceration and are trying to rebuild

  • You're in recovery from addiction and ready to build a career

  • You're currently homeless or unstably housed

  • You're living with mental health challenges or neurodivergence

  • You're a formerly homeless veteran

  • You're an immigrant or refugee navigating the U.S. job market

  • You come from a low-income background with limited opportunity

  • You've experienced trauma and need a real fresh start

  • You're simply struggling to find quality work and need support to get there

If any of that sounds familiar, this program was built for you.

And we want to be honest about something: starting a training program is hard when life hasn't settled yet. If you're worried about where you'll sleep tonight, how you'll feed your kids, whether you have enough stability to even think about a career — we hear that. And we don't want those barriers to keep you from ever getting started.

That's why we created the Life Navigation Launchpad — a short, simple set of questions that helps us understand where you are right now, not just where you want to go. It takes a few minutes. There are no wrong answers. And when you're done, we'll have a real conversation about what support you might need first — whether that's help with housing, food access, basic needs, education, or even income support while you train.

You don't have to have everything figured out before you reach out. That's literally what we're here for.

You Don't Need a Degree or Tech Experience

This is probably the thing that stops most people before they even reach out: "I don't have the background for this."

You do not need:

  • A high school diploma or GED (though we'll help you get one if you want it)

  • Any previous experience with computers or tech

  • Money upfront — not a dollar, not ever

  • Perfect attendance — life happens and we work with you

  • A job history — we believe in potential, not just your past

What we do ask for is your honesty about where you are, and your willingness to show up. We'll do the rest.

The Tech Careers Waiting for You

These are not hypothetical jobs. These are real positions at real companies, available to people with certifications and no four-year degree. The tech industry is one of the few sectors where a credential — not a diploma — opens the door.

Here's what's possible depending on how far you go in the program.

How the Program Works — Step by Step

We designed this process to be as simple and low-pressure as possible.

Step 1: Get Connected: You reach out. We meet with you — by phone, online, or in person at 140 Calaveras Ave in Modesto. We listen. We learn about your situation, your goals, and what support you need.

Step 2: Choose Your Path: Together, we help you choose a certification that matches your interests and your timeline. Whether you want something fast or want to aim for an advanced career, we meet you exactly where you are.

Step 3: Get Enrolled — Free: We handle every scholarship application. Google scholarships. Coursera financial aid. State workforce funding through programs like WIOA. Corporate sponsorships. You don't pay. We do the paperwork.

Step 4: Train With Support: You start your certification. Peer support specialists check in regularly. Mental health resources are available. Wraparound services — food help, transportation, housing navigation — are there if you need them. You are not in this alone.

Step 5: Get Certified: You complete your training. You earn your certification. You join the growing network of Hope Works graduates who are building real careers right now.

Step 6: Land Your Job: Our job placement team connects you with employers who are actively hiring from our program. Many have already hired Hope Works graduates. They understand our values, and they believe in giving people real chances.

Step 7: Succeed and Give Back: You land your job. You start earning real money. And if you want — many people do — you come back and mentor the next cohort. You share your story. You support someone just starting out. That's how change spreads.

The Support That Comes With It

Tech skills alone won't get you there if life keeps getting in the way. We know that. That's why Hope Works isn't just job training — it's a full support system.

Here's what we wrap around your training:

Peer Support Specialists — Real people who have lived the same experiences. They've been through recovery, reentry, housing instability. They get it. They are available throughout your entire training.

Career Coaches — We help you write your resume, prepare for interviews, and even negotiate your first offer. You won't walk into that hiring process alone.

Mental Health Resources — Counselors, crisis support, and connections to behavioral health services so that your mental health is never a roadblock to your progress.

Housing Navigation — Stable housing makes everything else possible. We help you find it, keep it, and navigate it.

Basic Needs Support — Food assistance, transportation help, childcare support when available. We believe no one should have to choose between eating and showing up for class.

Community — You'll be part of a cohort of people on the same journey. That connection is real. It matters more than you might think right now.

Start Your Journey Today

Hope Works is your next chapter. Free training. Real jobs. Real money. Real support — from people who have been exactly where you are.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this really free?

Yes. Completely free. We've secured partnerships with Google, Meta, Microsoft, and major foundations to cover all training costs and certification exams. You don't pay anything — ever.

What if I've never touched tech before?

That's exactly where we start. Hope Works is built for people with zero tech background. We begin from scratch and build your skills up step by step with peer support alongside you.

How long does training take?

Foundation programs take 3–6 months. Technical specialist programs take 4–8 months. Advanced programs take 6–12 months. We work around your life, not the other way around.

What if I'm homeless or in a housing crisis right now?

That's exactly who we serve. Hope Works includes housing navigation and basic needs support because we know life doesn't pause while you train. We can connect you to support right now.

Can I participate with a criminal record?

Yes. Tech companies are increasingly seeking formerly incarcerated individuals who demonstrate resilience, reliability, and commitment. Many of our employer partners actively recruit Hope Works graduates.

What if I'm struggling with addiction or in early recovery?

Our peer support specialists are trained to support people in recovery. We work with your support system and connect you to the resources you need while you build your career. Learn how we support mental health and recovery.

What if I need childcare or transportation help?

We help. Wraparound services include transportation assistance and childcare support where available so nothing stops you from training.

What happens after I get certified?

Our job placement team connects you with employers who are actively hiring graduates. Many already know and trust our program. You won't be submitting applications into the void alone.

Do I have to be in Modesto?

Our home base is Modesto at 140 Calaveras Ave, but we serve adults throughout the Central Valley. Reach out and we'll figure out how to make it work for where you are.
