About
The Community Health Worker Program by Help Is Hope Foundation is designed to empower individuals to serve as effective CHWs in California’s Central Valley, meeting Medi-Cal requirements and supporting underserved communities. This self-paced program provides a comprehensive curriculum modeled after the nationally recognized Community Health Worker Core Consensus Project (C3), covering all 10 core CHW skills and 10 core CHW roles. Participants will complete a minimum of 80 hours of training, including communication, advocacy, service coordination, outreach, and public health principles, plus at least 10 hours of supervised field experience. The training team includes current or former CHWs actively teaching, ensuring real-world relevance and meaningful participation. The program culminates in a core competency assessment, which may include tests, supervised fieldwork, or other methods. Graduates receive technical assistance to apply for a state-issued certificate when available and a Help Is Hope Certificate of Completion, qualifying them for Medi-Cal billing. The program also offers annual continuing education to maintain certification and compliance. Local partnerships and hybrid learning formats provide flexibility, practical experience, and community engagement, making this program a vital resource for aspiring CHWs and organizations seeking to build capacity and drive measurable impact in health equity.
