Support Services in the Central Velley: Real Help for People Who Are Struggling

Life in California's Central Valley is hard. And for a lot of people, it's getting harder.
Housing costs keep rising. Jobs disappear. Mental health breaks down quietly over years. And the systems meant to help — Medi-Cal, housing programs, social services — are often confusing, slow, and nearly impossible to navigate on your own.
If you're exhausted from trying to figure it all out, we want you to know something: you don't have to do this alone.
We're a peer-led team rooted in the Central Valley. We work with adults across the San Joaquin Valley — from Stockton to Fresno, Merced to the smaller rural communities in between — who are facing exactly the kinds of challenges you might be dealing with right now. Our job is to walk alongside you — not hand you a pamphlet and wish you luck.
If you need support right now, you can book a free session with our team or explore our resources page to find out what help you may qualify for.
Life in the Central Valley Is Hard — And the Systems Often Make It Harder
The Central Valley is one of the most agriculturally productive regions in the world — and also one of the most underserved. Communities across the San Joaquin Valley face some of the highest poverty rates in California, persistent gaps in mental health care, limited affordable housing, and transportation barriers that cut people off from the help they need.
People don't struggle here because they aren't trying. They struggle because the systems designed to help are often difficult to access, humiliating to navigate, and slow to respond. Rural communities especially can feel invisible to state programs built around urban infrastructure.
That's exactly why we built something different.
We believe that real support means meeting people where they are — not where the system expects them to be. Whether you're sleeping in your car outside Fresno, dealing with depression you've never talked about, trying to stay sober in Merced, or just trying to keep your lights on in Stockton — we're here.
What We Actually Do (In Plain Language)
Help With Housing and Basic Needs
We help people find safe housing, apply for emergency shelter, access food, and get basic necessities like clothing and hygiene supplies.
If you're facing eviction, couch-surfing, living in a motel, or sleeping outside — this is for you. We don't just hand you a list of phone numbers. We help you figure out what you actually qualify for and what your next step is. Many people with Medi-Cal may qualify for free housing navigation support — someone who helps search for housing, communicates with landlords, and stays with you through the whole process.
You deserve a safe place to sleep. Start by booking a session below:
Mental Health Support
Depression. Anxiety. Trauma. Grief. Thoughts that won't stop. Anger you don't know what to do with.
These aren't signs that something is wrong with you as a person. They're signs that you've been carrying a lot — and that you may need support.
We offer free one-on-one peer support from real people who have been through hard things themselves. We're not therapists in white coats. We're people who get it — because we've lived it.
We also help connect adults to mental health care when that's what's needed, including help finding the right providers and preparing for appointments. Across the Central Valley, access to mental health services is limited. We help close that gap.
If you're carrying something heavy right now, book a session below. You don't have to carry it alone.
Healthcare and Medical Help
Living without reliable healthcare in the Central Valley is more common than it should be — especially in rural areas where clinics are few and transportation is a real barrier.
We help people connect to medical care, including help finding a doctor, navigating Medi-Cal, understanding your benefits, and getting to appointments. We also help with hygiene access and medical supplies when those are barriers.
If you have Medi-Cal and have complex health needs — chronic illness, frequent ER visits, a condition that's hard to manage — you may qualify for a free helper who sticks with you through the whole process. Someone who makes calls for you, goes with you to appointments, and makes sure nothing falls through the cracks.

Employment, Bills, and Financial Survival
When your lights are about to get shut off or you can't find work that pays enough to survive — that's a crisis. We take it seriously.
We help adults navigate employment support, job training resources, and help keeping critical utilities and bills paid. We also help with benefits paperwork, financial forms, and understanding what programs you may be eligible for. Across the Central Valley, economic instability hits hard — and we're here to help you get steadier ground beneath your feet.

Reentry and Justice Support
Coming home from jail or prison in the Central Valley is one of the hardest transitions there is. Housing options are limited. Employers say no. Systems don't make it easy to start over — especially in smaller communities where everyone knows your name.
We support people through reentry and reintegration — helping with housing navigation, reconnecting to benefits, and staying stable during probation or parole. If you or someone you love is coming home soon, reach out. We'll help you make a plan. See "Book Now" after the next section.
Recovery From Substance Use
Recovery isn't a straight line. And it doesn't look the same for everyone.
Whether you're trying to stop drinking, dealing with opioid use, struggling with meth, or trying to manage a habit that's taken over your life — we're not here to judge. We're here to help you find a path that feels real and possible for your situation.
We offer peer support for people dealing with substance use — as well as help connecting to treatment options, harm reduction resources, and recovery planning. If you have Medi-Cal and are struggling with substance use, you may qualify for more support than you realize.

Who We Help
We work with adults 18 and older across the Central Valley — from Stockton and Merced to Fresno and the communities in between — including people who are:
Homeless or at serious risk of losing housing
Dealing with mental health struggles — depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more
In recovery or trying to get there
Living with chronic illness or disability
Recently released from jail or prison
Pregnant or postpartum with complex needs
Overwhelmed, isolated, or in crisis
Unsure what help they even qualify for
If you have Medi-Cal, you may be eligible for free wraparound support services that go far beyond a standard doctor visit — including care coordination, transportation help, housing navigation, and more. Most people across the Central Valley don't know these benefits exist. We help you find out.

How We're Different
A lot of organizations hand you a list. We sit with you.
We're peer-led — which means the people on our team have lived experience with the kinds of challenges our community faces. When you talk to us, you're talking to someone who has been through hard things. That changes everything.
We use technology to make help more accessible — including an online booking system so you can schedule support without making a phone call, and a free intake form at our resources page that helps us figure out exactly what kind of help you may qualify for. Whether you're in Stockton, Fresno, Merced, or somewhere in between, you don't need to drive anywhere to get started.
We're headquartered in Modesto at 140 Calaveras Ave, but we serve people throughout the Central Valley — and our online access means geography doesn't have to be a barrier.
Connection Is Part of the Healing
Transformation doesn't happen in isolation. It happens in relationship.
One of the most important things we offer isn't a program — it's presence. The experience of having someone in your corner who believes in you and refuses to give up on you. That matters everywhere, but it matters even more in a region where isolation and distance are real daily challenges.
That's why peer support is at the center of everything we do. People who've been through it sitting with people who are going through it right now. No hierarchy. No shame. Just honesty and care.
We also create space for people to connect with each other — through groups, workshops, and shared experience. Because sometimes, what heals you most is knowing you're not alone.
If you're ready to feel less alone, book a free session. We'll be there.
